How large is the transcription model?
The Whisper Large v3 Turbo model is approximately 632 MB. It downloads once during initial setup and runs entirely on your device after that.
Does the app need an internet connection?
Only for the initial model download. After that, all recording and transcription works completely offline.
Which languages are supported?
Vocal Notes supports over 30 languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, and many more. You can also use auto-detect to let the model identify the language automatically.
Can I import audio files?
Yes. Tap the import button on the main screen to bring in audio files from the Files app, Voice Memos, or other apps. M4A, WAV, MP3, and other common formats are supported.
What export formats are available?
You can export transcriptions as plain text (TXT), subtitles (SRT), or web captions (VTT). You can also share the original audio file directly.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. All processing happens on your device. No audio, text, or personal data is ever sent to external servers. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. Read our privacy policy for full details.
The transcription has errors. Can I fix it?
Yes. Open any transcription and use the menu to edit the full transcript or individual blocks. Your edits are saved immediately.
